About

Killer Virus Records was officially launched in 2006 but its genesis was actually a
few years earlier when a high school student named Carl McAfee formed what would
eventually grow into a highly successful record label. “My teacher asked everybody
what they wanted to be when they grow up. Everybody else said they wanted to be
a lawyer, doctor, firefighter, everyday normal stuff. I told my teacher I wanted to be a
rapper. She called my mom and told her that she needed to talk to me because being a
rapper is not realistic. That day I came up with Killer Virus Records and ever since then
I stuck with that name.”

In the early days of Killer Virus, McAfee had 10 kids from his high school signed to the
label and even though the label has grown and McAfee has learned a lot more about
the music industry since then, the founding mission of the label has stayed intact.

“The vision of KV is to be one of the biggest digital labels in the world and to give artists
an opportunity to live their dreams,” says McAfee. “We also want to be of service to
others by having programs for the poor and the less fortunate. We want to go after
artists that other labels probably wouldn’t sign.”

KV, which is currently distributed digitally as well as through Best Buy stores
nationwide, prides itself on granting its artists creative control. “What sets KV Records
apart from other labels is that our artists have control over their music. We still guide
and steer their projects but we let them be part of the process. We also do artist
development which is something that a lot of labels don’t do any more.”

McAvee says he and his label leave no stone unturned when it comes to finding
artists. “We find our talent online, or through people we know or just by being out and
about on a regular day. We just look for artists that are hungry and eager to get their
music out there.” So far, KV’s roster comprises artists Mikey Moola, Mac Peelo, Chazy
Racks, William McFly, Dre Guda and Joey Pluto.

The team at the helm of the label is just as talented as the artists they promote and
each of them brings a wide range of skills to the table. As CEO, McAfee oversees

promotion, marketing, budgets, recording and mastering. Label president Dominick Mac
handles events, marketing and promotions; Vice President Moss Kollie oversees events
and promotions; Gary Harmon manages street and club promotions and Shatanna is
the image consultant and stylist for the label’s artists.

McAfee says he has big dreams for Killer Virus Records. “We see the label, Lord willing,
having a couple of gold albums under our belt, signing new artists, and making dreams
come true.”
